Editorial Introduction
by Major Stephen
Court, Editor
Welcome
to the 88th edition of Journal of Aggressive
Christianity.
Our three conditions for inclusion in JAC
have traditionally been orthodox, edifying, and provocative.
We want to be orthodox, as far as salvationism is concerned,
not wanting to stir up any more controversy than the
provocation of some of the articles already do. And we
want content to be edifying – building up. Now, in the
short term, it may appear that an article here or there is
exceptional in that regard. But perspective can prove
otherwise. We hope so.
Major Danielle Strickland kicks off JAC88 with the draw and
necessity of life on the MARGINS. We hope you’ll find
what you’re looking for, there.
Captain Scott Strissel know how you can find that, and
describes it in EVERLASTING CONTENTMENT. We’re all
looking for it. And God wants to provide it.
Captain Michael Ramsay certainly lives up to the ‘provocative’
standard in A TEST FOR FAITH: HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT YOU REALLY
ARE A CHRISTIAN? This might be an excellent devotional
exercise that you can also share with your friends.
Major JoAnn Shade has a classic article that we’re making
available here called HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A LASSIE? This
will be bookmarked and shared and referenced for years to
come, so get in on the ground floor. Yes, we’re talking
about egalitarianism again.
And while we’re looking to mobilise as many of the best
leaders as possible for the great salvation war, let’s read
Stephanie Parker Chagas’s MAKING WAY FOR THE YOUNGER
GENERATION. And then let’s do it.
In our short ‘lists’ section Sergeant Steve Simms gives us the
TOP TEN WAYS TO QUENCH THE SPIRIT. Warning – these might
hit too close to home.
Lieutenant Peter Brookshaw gives us 8 REASONS CHURCHES DON’T
GROW. If you find yourself in a corps that isn’t
growing, maybe one or more of these reasons will apply.
And identifying the problem is key to solving it.
Our JAC Exclusive interview this issue is with Lieutenant
Andre Mere-Bara Togo. We interviewed Lieutenant Nana
Togo, who is married to him, early this year. They are a
fascinating couple. And he is a fascinating man with a
God-honouring story. This is a mind-boggling,
miraculaous account of God’s sovereignty! Edify yourself
by reading it, and then edify others by sharing it.
Major Robert Evans questions the semantics of a common phrase,
in OFF TO WORK. Longtime readers will know that JAC is
strong on words we use to describe what and who we are.
We describe ourselves as ‘evangelist’ (as we were taught
officership is when in training college) and are happy for
officership to be described as vocational Christian leadership
in The Salvation Army. And so on…
And picking up where Evans’s leaves off, let us add our own
take on semantics in THE SALVO WAY.
That’s it for JAC88. There is enough orthodox stuff here
to provoke and edify, to save and sanctify, to challenge and
inspire. Favour us by reading, applying, and sharing the
contents of this issue. Glory to God.
