Sage Wisdom – Knaggs (USA Eastern)
by Commissioner Jim
Knaggs
JAC: How has your life
changed post-retirement age from a few decades ago?
(spiritual, priorities, schedule, etc.)
One of the greatest advantages of
retirement is in the area of choices and time management. I’ve
really enjoyed and taken advantage of the time I now have to
read extensively and study deeply. In active ministry we have
obligations that require specific research and functional
study to meet the pressing demands.
I’ve really enjoyed the time to pray
more and to listen to the Lord. He is my help.
Clearly, I can give as much attention
to my family as needed.
JAC: What did 'missional'
look like for you a generation ago?
It was always mixed with administrative
demands which often took significant energy and attention.
JAC: How does it look now?
More so… Like most institutions, the
movement is very concerned with perpetuity and public
perception. We need to win the world for Jesus.
JAC: What lessons that you
learned have stood the test of time?
Take time to be holy.
You don’t always have to understand the
complexities, issues, or even personalities. We need to trust
God.
JAC: How are they still
relevant in your life? (which didn't and aren't?)
These matters are of more consequence
as I continue to grow in Christ.
JAC: What habits and rhythms
have you adapted to optimise this season of your life?
I can manage my schedule to personal
advantage spiritually, relationally and developmentally.
JAC:
What did you wish you knew back in the day that you know now?
(about Jesus, holiness, great commission, etc.)
I could have been even more active in
missional decision making.
I would have better studied the
opportunities of leadership that were mine and pressed on even
more.
I would have better understood the
spiritual growth God had for me as I confronted each day.
JAC: What would you have done
differently back in the day if you knew then what you know
now? (leaning into maybe less spiritual / theological things
than the previous question and more into strategies and
tactics)
Trusted God more.
Been a better evangelist.
Greater impact on global SA…I left them
to their mission and intervened only when requested.
